I was told it used to be a diaphragm that vibrated, on the old microphones. What vibrates on modern mics to pick up the sound?
A: There are different types of mics. The ones mostly used today are known as "electrolytic, or condensor" mics. They don't have so much a diaphram as "dynamic" mics do. Condensor mics pick up sound when the sound pressure viabrates one, or both of it's plates.
