How do I hook up tv speakers as center channel speakers?

Q: I have an Hitachi 42hds69 w/ the tv-as-center feature. How do I connect that to work? I have a pioneer receiver for my surround, but want to use the tv audio for the center channel.

A: It might not sound to good, but you could try getting a Y-adapter

and connecting your TV's L&R audio IN from your receiver's pre-

amp RCA output for the center channel -and voila!

You wont be able to unless there is a center channel speaker input on the back of your tv. Even if there is one, I wouldn't recommend it as the sound will not match up with your other speakers, plus the quality is cheap.

Hook an rca from the center channel output of your A/V receiver to the "center in" input of your tv. Once you set the TV as the center channel, it becomes part of your surround system and no longer functions as a TV speaker. You have to go into the audio setup menu and change it back to On if you just want to watch TV without using the A/V receiver.

What should I look for in a center channel speaker? I would like to keep it under $200. Thanks


A: Hi. Ideally the front left main,center, and front right main speakers should be identical .If that is not possible at least it should be a center speaker from the same manufacturer of your two front speakers,

The centre channel speaker is more important than any other speaker in you system.
Please don't buy a cheap one ,get the best one you can afford .

I bought a Sony 5.1 for my living room and am now upgrading to a nice 6.1 system. I'm putting the Sony in my bedroom and don't need the rear channel speakers (plus don't want to go through the hassle of hooking these up). Should I still install the center channel speaker or use only the front left and right and use 2.1 stereo?


A: no point. things are either mixed for stereo or surround.

Can my HD video projector screen cover my center-channel speaker and not affect the audio balance?

Sound Waves BMW 5-Series

I am planning to install a ceiling mounted HD projector and pull-down widescreen.

The problem is that the screen will pull down right in front of the speaker for my center channel audio. I would think that this will affect the balance of my surround sound, correct?

I can't move the speakers below the screen. Does anyone know if the screen will have a really noticable effect? Any ideas for getting around this?


A: javan is right...they make screens that are specifically engineered to be acoustically transparent..and not all of them are perforated.

in reality..it doesn't really throw the balance off..since it's the center speaker...and you can always increase the volume of just that speaker.

but where is the screen that it's blocking the speaker? most people incorrectly put thier center channel ABOVE the left/right front speakers....your center channel is...
