Does a stereo amplifier do the same thing as a headphone amplifier? I want a new amp for my headphones, and I usually use these headphones with my home stereo system. I was wondering if that would be better for my system than a regular headphone amp. Thanks for the help.

A: I don't know what you mean by "headphone amplifier". Headphones always plug into a device that generates an audio signal, and that device has an amplifier built in that provides the power to drive your headphone speakers. If your headphones have a volume control built in, that control just decreases the signal provided by the amplifier... it doesn't have a means of amplifying it.

I want to connect my laptop to my stereo amplifier so I can just select a song from within ITunes and play it through my system. Is this possible and if so, what do I need to do it?

i dont know the system u have. the amplifier u intend to use but you dont have to do anything special really. you just need to find the proper cable and then connect the speaker out of your pc to the amplifier :)

if you are familiar with output impedance/input impedance, it would be safe if you can check the amplifier's impedance if it is 8ohms :)

I have a Pioneer stereo amplifier (c. 1970) which is rated at 200 Watts. For the purposes of this question, what would the approximate power consumption be if it isn't outputting anything?

I imagine it would be near zero, because the majority of the power is output as sound under normal use, but are there other factors which I haven't taken account of?

A: Not much at all. Look at it his way if you have a gallon of water and punch a pen head in it only a little will come at but if you turn up your stereo or put a bigger hole in the watter bottle more will come out.
