Q: I want electronic music that integrates a lot of world (Brasilian, Middle Eastern, etc) influences such as Thievery Corporation and Brazilian Girls?

A: Okay well the genres you should be looking for are "Goa Trance" (which is electronic music with Middle Eastern influences), Progressive Trance ( Basically Trance/Electronica that is upbeat and not smooth/uplifting ) and finally House Music.

"Not A Number" by Apparat has a sort of Chinese kind of sound to it. And the song "We Share our Mother's Health" by Swedish duo The Knife has what I'd describe as an African influenced sound. Both are really good songs, I definitely recommend them.

What kind of equipment should I get to begin making electronic music?

I've been playing for Fruity Loops demo for about a week now and just creating beats with it. I'm looking to buy a laptop, what kind would be good for making electronic music, also what other software and hardware would be helpful? Any other tips would be appreciated also.

But if you're happy with FL studio that would work fine too. I've been using the producer edition for years now (and lately also Ableton Live) and it's still my preferred program for doing music. Keeps getting better with every version.

Can you help me get started on making electronic music?

I currently play bass, and I'm learning piano. Soon after or even at the same time, I'd like to start making some digital/electronic music and was wondering where I should start? What equipment/programs do I need? I'd prefer something a bit cheaper and easier to use at this point, seeing as I'm a complete novice. Any advice on the subject would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help!


A: The electronic age has done MUCH for aspiring musicians so you are in for a treat as you embark on this part of your artisitic journey.
