Q: will a Bower 724AFC flash work with a canon 8 mp xt, If not can someone please lead me to a inexpensive site to purchase a nice flash?

A: I don't know if the Bower is a nice flash expecially since it only costs $50 on Amazon.

I would prefer to see you buy a Canon flash. They have proprietary features that third party flashes cannot match, like E-TTL on newer Canon cameras It is $125, but well worth the extra money, in durability as well as features that will make your life easier when you have to resort to using a flash.

There are not really any inexpensive nice flashes, the least expensive if you can find one is going to be the Canon 430EX although they have now upgraded to the 430EXII. Try ebay for a 430EX. Sigma makes a few cheaper flashes, bit not as nice. DSLR's+cheap+nice=not a chance.

Why I can't select "1st Curtain" on the external flash menu when using Bower SFD35C on my Canon 40D?

Whenever I connect this flash my camera is set to flash on 2nd curtain sync and it's not giving me more options than that. Also, if I select the "external flash func. setting" it's saying there's no connected flash or incompatible unit (something like that).


A: The External Flash Func. setting only works with compatible flashes. You'll have to check your manual to see if it is compatible. Though I am betting your Bower SFD35C isn't. (Don't worry, my Canon 550 EX isn't either... but my 580 EX II is.)

For my 550 EX, to select between 1st and 2nd curtain sync, I've got to set it on the flash, I can't do it in camera (the option is grayed out). Now if you can't select between 1st and 2nd curtain sync on the...

im trying to get one new off ebay, and they look pretty cheap, like 70 bucks. but i was just wondering about the quality. It says on the listing that its Bower E-TTL

how abot vivatar? are they any good? I am pro photographer that has just used natural light, so i dont know really that much about flashes....


A: Be careful.

Before you buy be sure that the trigger voltage for that flash is less than 6 volts ... anything higher will fry your cameras electronics ... not covered by Canon's warranty

What should I look for when i am buying a flash for my nikon d40?

I am looking at the sb series 400 & 600 but I'm just an amateur and was thinking about the vivitar and bower brand. I'm not even that knowledgable on using a flash yet so what do i look for? What is i-TTL vs TTL and which should I get? What are some other things I should look at when i purchase my flash? I would really like to go with one of the cheaper brands just starting out.
