Q: I already have a 55-200mm lense and it doesn't do much for taking pictures of fast moving sports.

would this lense help any you think....??

A: The 70-300mm G is an economy zoom that will bring you closer to the action. But, it won't do a thing for capturing fast moving sports.

Much of what you need is based on which model Nikon you have. If you have a D40, D40x, or the new D60, you'll be restricted to the S series lenses such as the 55-200mm, 55-300mm VR, or the 70-300mm VR optics.

Good lens for Nikon cameras. You have to make sure the lens is compatible with your camera.

Capturing fast moving subjects is a function of shutter speed. Shutter speed is dependent on the ISO used, the available light and the aperture used with your lens. Buying the 70-300mm zoom will get you "closer" to the action but it will not have any effect on capturing fast moving subjects.

I have a Nikon D40 and I need to clean the lens and viewfinder, but I don't have an actual lens cleaning material. What can I use instead that won't damage the lens?


A: I have used a Pentax and PhotoSilk lens cleaning cloth for many years. Buy one and you won't regret it. Don't use an old shirt or a paper towel or a tissue or anything else not specifically made for lens cleaning.

I'm in total agreement with ace about the importance of keeping a good quality UV or Skylight filter on your lens unless you are using a polarizer. Heliopan, B+W, Singh-Ray, Tiffen and Hoya are all good brands for filters.

What is the best Nikon 50mm lens to use with a Nikon FM?

I know that it has the Nikon F mount, but was wondering what 50mm lens it came with. Also does anybody know anything about the E series lenses? Are they a lower quality nikon lens?


A: The best Nikon 50mm lenses, either the Nikon/Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens or the more expensive 50mm f/1.4 lens. You can get a used AI lens or a modern AF lens.

What is the best Nikon Camera Lens to shoot still portraits with?

I am planning to take my daughters senior portraits this year, and would like to know which Nikon Lens would be the best to purchase for the best quality picture. I own a Nokon D80 if that helps.I currently own the original lens that came with it...Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 18-135mm 1:3.5-5.6G ED Thanks for the help!


A: I like Karl's answer and agree 100%. Your lens is probably just fine and your lighting will make the most difference. Try not to simply use the on-camera flash. At a MINIMUM, if you are stuck using the on-camera flash, put a lamp with a bare bulb on the floor behind your subject so the shadows on the wall will be kept to a minimum.

If you are looking for an excuse to buy a nice new lens, I do like the 17-55, but our resident model photographer fhotoace uses the Nikon...
