Who manufactures Phoenix Lens?

Q: I have a new 100-300mm Phoenix Lens. The company address is no where on the instruction booklet nor can I find Phoenix on the internet. I have been told that HOYA manufactures Phoenix. Does anyone know for sure?

A: Not Hoya. They do have Phoenix as a product name, but this is for spectacle lenses I think.

Sometimes you see these lenses listed as Samyang/Pheonix. I don't know who Samyang are, so I haven't helped much...

Any one had experiences with this lens company? I found a lens in my price range but have yet to use phoenix lenses


A: Phoenix is rarely regarded as good in any case. Those who have used them usually remark on how the parts are plastic and tend to feel clunky/poor. They're not made to last in the least.

If you really want it though, then they're a decent effort to try. They're also the only company out there to offer a 600mm zoom without it involving a special order and a $3k price tag. If you get any great shots with it though, then I'm sure there's a lot of people who would like to know...

I am thinking about getting that for my camera XTI will this work well?


A: From the reviews i've read.. yes it will work. No it wont work well:

"For your budget get a used Sigma 400mm f/5.6 or 300mm f/4 and go to a national park where the deer are less shy. You'll have no problems getting a good shot. Phoenix lenses suck, unless the only thing you do with your pictures is put them in a shoebox and you never enlarge beyond 3.5" x 5". "

Looks like they're crappy quality.
