the hard part is the hydrogen alpha filter. those puppies are expensive!

the ones i know about (e.g. coronado) cost more than their pst does. the pst's list price is steep, but nobody ever sells them for that.

You can make a pinhole solar scope with a piece of cardboard and a pin. The image is projected. The longer the space between the pinhole and the image, the bigger it is.

One of the guys at the club uses several layers of mylar from wrapping paper clamped onto binoculars with rubber bands. It's not on my recommended list. The expensive part of his setup is his tripod.

Then there's the telescope with the full aperture commercial solar filter.
