Q: Okay all my guy friends have this really big joke about an ipod that only plays 3 songs called a tripod??? What does this REALLY mean; im sure its pretty disgusting tho but i hate not knowing things it really annoys me!

A: a tripod is another name for a guy with a penis so long that it touches the ground, it would appear like another leg, hence the name "tripod."

kinda immature but that is no doubt the meaning behind their joke

I will be doing some outdoor photography and moving around so I need something light weight and sturdy. I also want to be able to smoothly roll the camera around on top of the tripod. I am looking for quality. What do you recommend?


A: I'm not going to recommend a particular tripod as what's good for you may be different to whats good for me. What I would do is write down a check list of what you need the tripod to do/be. Include such things as weight, height (and adjustability), head movement, speed of use, transportability.

What is a sturdy tripod for various kind of photography even if it weighs a lot?

Hello all. I'm looking to get a tripod, something very sturdy. My budget is around 150ish. I will be using it to support telephoto lenses, macro lenses, and also for some night time long exposures.

I do want something that has a quick release, and something sturdy that can hold a good amount of weight. Since my budget is very small, the sacrifice I'm making is weight. It can weigh a lot I don't care, as long as it's very sturdy.


A: actually, the sturdiest tripods are fairly light. You could probably just about get a manfrotto for your budget

What is the difference between a tripod for a camcorder and one for a stills camera?

I'm looking to purchase a second tripod, we currently have one designed for a stills camera - the head moves in three directions. What is the advantage of buying a tripod (or head) specifically designed for video cameras? - does it really just need to pan in two directions and have a fluid mount? - yours, confused!


A: My views are:

Smooth panning tripods, those which have a fluid mount (which absorbs some judder) are very useful if you wish to video motor sports (would only need to pan in one plane) or activities with elements of height say kids on a big bouncy castle (where you may use 2 planes)

Judder is very difficult to remove in post production, so it is important that it is minimised at point of shoot.

I would advise getting a fluid mount for this...
