I am building a swimming pool in India. Are car headlights any good for lighting underwater in swimming pools?

Even proper pool light manufacturers have trouble making good underwater lights. Pressure from water can do amazing things to seals. If you are using something not intended for underwater use - dont mount it too deep in the pool.

Ensure it is 12V or worst case 24V (12V is the legal standard here in Perth Western Australia now) 24V can potentially interfere with a pacemaker...

Good pool lights can be found from companies such as spa electrics,...

can it be used underwater?

well, i think it's really cool and good when using other lights underwater which may be can used underwater. maybe any colored lights maybe used as long as it fits your pool but there are risks it might be broken and make some ground and accident some who swim there.

no, you are going tho need "wet nich lighting" or "dry nich lighting". the light has to be <24V DC

I am looking to spend 1-3 grand on an underwater photo system and would appreciate your imput. what would you recomend for a SLR? housing? lighting? the pictures would be mostly carribean from 0-80 feet thanks alot


A: I would look in the Canon high end SLRs and the Ikelite housings. The lights I am unsure.
The reason I say Ikelite is because they are very reliable with full manufacturer back-up and fairly inexpensive, leaving more camera money (or wide-angle adapter).
They make housings for the whole EOS Canon range.
The reason for Canon? Sorry, I just think they are the best!

Sea Shell Close-up

I bought a house with an inground pool, and the underwater light is made by Jacuzzi. It uses a tungsten bulb (500w). I am having difficulty finding parts for it. I also need two gaskets, and there is a cardboard foil-covered liner (funnel shape) that lines the inside of the light dome, and helps reflect the light (gaskets dried out, water got in and the foil-covered cardboard turned to mush). Any parts out there for sale? Anyone know of a pool supply store where I can buy parts? I heard that...
