Q: I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what guitar effect Kurt Cobain used on the intro to Lithium.

A: Pretty sure it's high flanger with low delay on black panel.

He does use a flanger in "Come As you Are", so i'd say he is using a flanger as the guy before me said. Just set differently for "Lithium".

will playing guitar effect my ability to play piano?

Well, I was considering learning guitar, but my piano teacher told me that when guitarists play their fingers develop a tough skin and this may effect my ability to control pressure on my fingers as well as without playing guitar.

Is this true?


A: Nonsense... I have been playing both piano/keyboard and guitar for over 50 years.. if you have the proper technique, then having callouses on the finger tips of your left hand won't make any difference unless you want to make it a big deal.

what guitar effect pedal should i buy?

hey im planning on buying a guitar effect pedal. the thing is i dont really know much about them. Ive been playing electric for about a year now and i was looking for a good overdrive sound. I'm not really sure what type of music i play right now. im just looking for a good well rounded one. my price range is maybe around $175

A: Zoom makes a variety of multi effects boxes that you can find on eBay for under 100. I have the bass version, and it has at least 40 preset sounds and effects! At this stage, this might be a great option for you while you're still looking for your 'sound'.

Will changing the pick guard on my guitar effect the resale value years from now?

I bought an american made fender stratocaster sunburst color and it came with a white pick guard. I want to change the pick guard color so it will look better and i'm planning on keeping this guitar for a very very long time. but when the time comes and i might want to sell it, if i don't have the 'original' pick guard it came with, will it effect the resale value of it?


A: Unless the guitar is a first run or limited edition (like an anniversary model) I wouldn't worry about it. Just the wear and tear from picking it up and playing it will probably devalue the guitar more.

You could hang on to the original pick guard. However, those things tend to shrink ever so slightly over the years, and in 25 to 30 years from now it probably won't fit back on the guitar.
