Does anyone know any good tv tuner (usb for laptop/pc) that supports HD?

Q: Hello, I don't have any experiences with tv tuners and I was wondering if anyone ever bought any tv tuner that works great.
I am heading to a campus college so they will have cable so I want my laptop to be able to access it with the tuner.
Also I have fios at home with HD channels so I want my tv tuner to be able to support that too. I plan to record some tv shows.
My computer and laptop is Vista 64 bit Premium.
Does anyone know any good HD tv tuners (usb) and...

external tv tunners suck sorry. but internal ones are cheaper eaiser to set up. buy the way your computer has an extra slot inside that is just being taken up by a modem that you wont even use anymore. if your really set on a external tunner just go to best buy or future shop cuz i am sure you will just have to return that junk. good luck

I have a computer with a tv tuner and I don't have access to my cable because of the distance my room is from where the cable needs to be. So I need a good alternative that has nbc, fox, cbs, and other local channels, some movie channels like fx and usa, and channels like the travel channel and the discovery channel. I live in Philadelphian suburbs. Thanks

Can I access over the air HD stations through my directv receiver? My TV has an analog tuner in it.


A: I have the antenna wire on a splitter to the tv (in case cable goes out) and to the HR20. Connect an off-air antenna to the HR20 (off-air antenna input in the back) and then use the DVR's menu - setup - antenna tuning to tune in the off-air channels. They will appear in the guide in bold and will have the menu schedule and record enabled just like a channel from the satellite! When I bought my HDTV I realized I can only get caption on SD Channels and none on HD channels (Yes, SD not HD). This caption is from TV and not the DVR box. I read some forum answers to the effect that I can access the setup menu on the DVR box through the remote (With power off). When I do that and enable the caption thru the cable box and no matter what other setting I do, I get a very bad quality caption on ALL channels at all times that can NOT be stopped by turning the TV caption off....


A: There is nothing you can do to improve the situation. The 6412's clumsy closed captioning is only accessible through the menu you already know about. Switching to HDMI won't improve this. Complain to your cable provider.
