Where to mount ceiling speakers?

Q: I have a center-hall colonial, so when you walk in my front door, there is a center hall that is open to the second floor. Up on the second floor I am going to install 2 JBL speakers (easy access from attic). Where would be an ideal spot for these. Would they be diagonal from each other? One toward front of house, one toward back? Maybe both on same side?

Unfortunately, the owner's manual does not give suggestions. Shame on them for costing me points :)

A: Basically you want to spread out the sound evenly into the area you are trying to get music. It's hard to say without actually seeing your house, but probably I would put one one in the center of the front half and one in the center of the back half. The speakers would be lined up but spread out.

If it's just for background music, then technically placement is not important. You're not going to get much (if any) stereo image off of that sort of system, so you're best off installing them in the general areas in which you socialize.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd see if you can set it up to play in mono (there should be some kind of setting on the amplifier that allows this) and then put one speaker in the front and one in the back on the house (living...

I have JBL speakers in the ceiling, Monster speakers in the wall and a basic Sony reciever.


A: Hi. Depending on how small the room is you won't hear the low notes from the Subwoofer because the length of the bass sound waves are longer than the room dimensions.A 20hz note is 56 feet long.
