Q: i have a Numark turntable with a ground out put and just computer speakers, no volume, how do i sucessfully get volume out of these speakers? i have hooked up the RCA cables to an adapter that unifies left and right, the ground wire is not attached to anything.What is the most inexpensive way of getting this to work? i just want to listen to my records, and got this sweet turntable at a great price......

A: Your turntable is much lower output voltage than any other audio component. This is because the signal is being generated by the tiny magnets and coils in the cartridge by the movement of the needle in the record groove. At best, you have 5 mV from the highest output cartridge compared to 700 mV for a typical cassette player and as high as 2 V(2,000 mV) for some CD players. You either need a phono preamp, or a stereo receiver with phono inputs and tape record outputs. This kind of receiver is designed with a built-in phono preamp at the phono inputs to bump up the low signal levels from the turntable cartridge.

The tape record outputs are line level outputs of the selected input to the receiver that would go to a tape deck to record the selected audio source. Since the computer speakers have built-in power amplifiers, you would input this...

A: The Mbox has "line inputs" so if you try to plug your turntable into the Mbox directly, the level will be too low. What you need is called a "phono preamp" and it boost the turntable output up to "line level". You will need a pair of RCA cables and a pair of RCA to 1/4 inch cables. Here is a good preamp:

Can There Be Art? #4

The reason I'm asking is that it's the only CD turntable I've found on the net that allows you to scratch CD's instead of vinyl.
Well actually I've found a lot of others but the CDX is the only one with a 12" vinyl and slipmat.
That is what makes it so good compared to the others. I'm new to DJ equipment and really I don't want to fork over large amounts of cash only to find that I could've got something better for the same price, or maybe less!


A: I'd have a hunt around on this website, great gear at decent prices, they are the DJ experts.

Not seen a hybrid vinyl/CD player before, certainly saves space if you have both formats.

Most quality CD decks have scratch function/vinyl emulation.

The industry/nightclub standard is pretty much still Technics for vinyl and Pioneer for CDJ...

Do you have a lot of vinyl already or want to get it? If not I'd suggest you might be better off...

What type of turntable makes vinyl conversion to MP3, Line input or USB?? Technics, Numark or Yamaha?
