Q: Have a Radio Shack Pro 2050 scanner and all I get is static. How do I set it to get trunk police calls? Do I need to get a APCO-25 card to install?

I got it at a pawn shop in 1992 and there was a change in the law. I don't think they sell them anymore but I am not sure. This guy tried to tell me the police would take it away from me if they caught me with it. Is this true? What should I do if the police tried to take it away from me?


A: go to radio frequency.com, it is only illegal if you tamper with the scanner and pick up any channels that are locked out by the company that manufactured them, you can buy chips that alter them but this is illegal if caught.

A: Modify to do what? If you are experimenting with receiving "out of band" signals, you can try the old fake IF trick by programing the image rather than the frequency. If you want to receive the cell phone frequencies (that are blocked out) there is both a US Federal and international laws against that.

I downloaded one progra but its really confusing. Is there a simple way to upload the frequencies without having to take it into Radio Shack each time?
