recently picked this tape deck as a used piece. I am not sure if does come with remote control. Is there any way to have remote control for this (even if didn't have one)?

A: No it doesn't come with a remote, but you can use a remote for it.

I Dropped It And When There Isn't A Tape In The Deck It Works Fine It Goes In And Out. But As Soon As I Set A Tape In It It Wont Close And A C:31:40 Error Appears. I Know Its Reinsert Tape But The Fuckin Thing Wont Close; The Tape Doesn't Go In.

A: The tape transport is damaged and will not load the tape properly. Take it to a qualified repair center for service or replace it. Under no circumstances should you put a tape in this machine which you wish to keep intact!

I had a power surge about 2 months ago, and I had the stereo (Mhc-G500) and it was on a power strip/surge protector. Since then it will not play any sound, but all works. CD/Radio/Tape all works. I want to fix it, but am not sure how to do so.

A: Hook up headphones and see if you can still hear the music. If so, you have the same problem I had with mine, the main amp is blown. At the cost of Sony service I opted to hook a pair of powered speakers from the computer into the headphone jack.

This, dear readers, is all that remains of my tape collection: one USB stick.

Twenty years of collecting and nurturing an audio cassette collection have been reduced to nothing more than one 16GB USB flash drive's worth of bits. Just to put the scale of things into another perspective, take a look at this picture:

Yes, that's the same USB stick stuck slap-bang in the middle of the shelves, and that's only some 200 tapes visible in the front layer of the cabinet (not the original collection). More than this amount of music (data) and the shelf space it occupies have been condensed into what would fit onto that little stick there.

OK, enough with the dramatic exaggeration already: reality is a little different, and it's some these little facts, observations and anecdotes I will share with my non-existent readers here.

A few weeks ago (21. April, to be precise) I completed the project which involved going through all 284 tapes in my private collection, ripping the bulk to MP3 and partially scanning in the artwork. The undertaking begun in April 2008 and took roughly 600 man-hours and brazillions of CPU cycles to complete.
