Q: 2.1 speaker system, with active subwoofer and various leads, for plugging in an ipod, mp3 player, pc etc. can i use the subwoofer with my yamaha system? tried 'plugging' it in but got no sound out of it.

A: try the headphone output on yamaha, to run to speaker system turn the volume up.

If your active sub has various sockets for plugging in your mps player etc, then you should have no trouble taking a 3.5mm mono jack to, what ever input you sub takes, cable (this could possibly be jack or phono).

I'm a music teacher. I have a Yamaha, 5 disc changer at work...it's not a boom box. It's a professional one with an amp and all that. I need it now, not six weeks from now when they get around to fixing it. In the past, there would be one tray that wouldn't recognize the disc. Now, the tray just keeps turning and doesn't recognize ANY CD I put in there, burned or not. I've blown the dust out of it. I'm using a crappy cheap boom box right now, but have a big middle...

My home theatre system, yamaha amplifier, DVD player and worldspace satellite radio receiver and sony cd player are all linked up.


A: You just need some recording software on your computer. Then get a RCA to 3.5mm cable to connect your Yamaha line or tape out (RCA) to the line in (3.5mm) on the computer. These cables are available everywhere:

Is PCM output from CD/DVD player really "raw" signal from the disc?

I've recently bought a highend Denon DVD palyer claiming to boast superior DACs, but I also have a very good Yamaha home theater amplifier. I'm concerned that if I only use the "raw" signal picked up by DVD palyer, the money is wasted. My bottom question is that " is the PCM signal (from digital audio output) converted directly from the bit signal picked up by laser reader or is it re-produced after being DACed?"
Could anyone give me some advice as how to...


A: PCM is the "raw" signal. If you have "high-end" player, it probably has better DAC than Yamaha receiver, so you are better off connecting analog (R/L) output to Yamaha, and MAKE SURE YOU BYPASS ALL OF THE PROCESSING!!! Use something like "pure stereo" of "bypass" mode.
