What kind of midi controller should I get to make house music?

Hello!

I want to start creating house music and I believe one of my first steps is getting a midi controller? Is there certain midi controllers people would suggest I get? I don't want it to be too pricey, but quality is also very important in the compromise.

Thanks!

A: If you're looking for a midi controller, I assume you'll be mainly recording with software synths (aka VSTi's). This is a more affordable route to go than the one that a hardware junkie such as myself would take. You only need one physical keyboard, saving you space and money. If you're doing this, the type of midi controller isn't important to the genre, as it isn't producing any actual sound. Just about any controller works, but I like this one:...

Is it possible to turn a regular electronic keyboard in a midi controller?

Hi if i have a regular electronic keyboard is it possible to turn it into a midi controller, like those M-Audio ones?

A: Yes you can.
There's a number of ways... Of course the easiest would be to take a MIDI cable and go from your soon to be MIDI controller's MIDI-out to your source's MIDI-in.

Now if I'm understanding the question... you want to turn your keyboard into a MIDI controller for your computer. You can do this too.
M-Audio, along with other companies, makes MIDI-USB cables/interfaces. Download/install the drivers, plug in from your keyboard's...

How can I use my MIDI controller live?

I recently bought a M-Audio Keystation 61es USB MIDI controller. I have been using this with Reason on my desktop PC to record some tracks, but I would like to start using this controller live. At the very least I would like to use a variety of instrument patches (preferably the Reason patches) live. Ideally I'd like to use the drum tracks I've built on my desktop.

Do I have to get a laptop or are there physical modules I can use to play live?

I'm...

A: If you want to play your Reason patches live, you'll probably need a new audio interface for your PC. You should get one that has MIDI I/O (so you can plug in your keyboard) and at least one pair (that's stereo) of 1/4" outputs. You should also find one that is either firewire, USB 2.0 (USB 1 is WAY too slow) or PCI. It should also have an ASIO driver, don't get one that only has a Direct X driver. These work great for multimedia and video games (i.e. the SoundBlaster...
