My Computer has Realtek Hd Audio - my one jack speakers don't work do i have to buy surround sound?

Q: i bought a new HD LCD monitor, but my external speakers stopped working. Now my PC shows Realtek HD sound...do i have to buy surround sound (subwoofers, bass, etc) for my computer so the sound will work?

My pc has realtek audio too and I had the same problem.
I had sound but it was bad and noisy.
Download the new drivers from realtek website and install them.
In other words, you need to update the sound device drivers of the lcd monitor.

I need a good way to add more speakers to my sound board, can anyone help?

I have tried several things and cant seem to find anything that works for my setup. I have 2 outputs for my speakers on my board and i orderd 4 with it... and i cant find anything that will allow me to do this, I have 2 live monitors, and 2 subwoofers, and a Behringer board. Any advice would be appreciated, also include a link to the site where i can order these at.


A: I need a little more info to answer this correctly. What model is the board and I take it that it's a "powered" mixer (amps built in). Most of these mixers have only 2 or 4 speaker outputs. However, it can get a little more tricky as they also have a limit on how low of an impedance you can run. Normally you can run 2- 8 ohm cabinets per channel (in parallel) for an impedance of 4 ohms per side.

About how much would it cost for audio/video system installation in a car?

I have a 1983 Jaguar XJ6 and I have already bought the audio/video items that I want to install, the only problem is the cost of the installation for everything I have. These are all the items that I have and want to put in the car:
Four 5 1/4 speakers
Four 12 inch Subwoofers (800 watts max each)
One 2400 watt 2 channel amplifier
Two sunvisor monitors (8 inches)
Two headrest monitors (9 inches)
Trunk Hush Mat
How much would it cost to install...


A: I would recommend a small privately owned shop that has been around for more than 5 years. You can't haggle the larger shops on install price.
Standard prices for installation in the Chattanooga area are:
speakers $50/pair
Subs $25 each
Amplifier $75
Visor & headrest monitors $150 each
So you would be looking at about $900, you can talk a small shop into doing everything for around $750.
Prices are alot higher in bigger cities.

'Professional'-grade speakers with 'Consumer'-grade audio gear?

This concerns the Peavey PR10/PR12/PR15 series PA speakers. I have a pair of powered Jensen JP10SW subwoofers that have 75 watt amps. My power-source is an older Pioneer AV receiver that puts out 100 watts/channel. Would it be safe to use a pair of the 'professional' Peavey speakers with my setup? I think that since the subs crossover networks would send the mid/high frequencies up, this wouldn't make the Peavey's work as hard as if in full-range. Also, I'm not sure...


A: nothing wrong with hooking it up and using it as you describe - haivng 100wats per side at home in your living room is fine and will run PA type speakers - the issue around power is not having enough can result in 'clipping' pushing the amp beyond its ability - thise drives square waves (DC Current) into your speaker - thats what makes them burn out.
i use PA speakers in my basement on my Sony sourround amp with no issues
