A: This may not help: I've just bought this camera. I set it up on a tripod, focussed in on a bird feeder and tried to take a shot from behind the glass of the back door. No luck, not even when less than a metre away.

if u open the remote inside you can see 6 digits n.o that n.o should be same as the n.o in the remote system inside the car
check your user manual to know where it is located in the car and then you can open it and check the same n.o is there it will 100% work if the remote ok

I would suggest starting with a trip to Lowes if you can't find the directions, or they don't help you, and you can't find any reset switches (there should be one on the fan, the remote, or both).
