Speaker system?

Q: I want a speaker system to put in my room. I want at least the sub and 4 speakers, becuase I want surround sound, and I will be using this with a computer or DVD player at different times so it has to be compatible with both somehow, like maybe with a special cable. Also, it needs to be wireless. None of the speakers, besides the sub, can have any cables. Also, I need to keep this under 500 dollars.

A: Unless you are willing to spend serious cash, wireless is a joke. If you only have $500 to spend, buy a decent used amp (Denon and Pioneer Elites can be had for good prices if you shop around ebay or craigslist) and get 2 good floor standing speakers to start, then build off that. If you watch, sometimes you can get a set of Polk Rti speakers for a decent price from Fry's, and for the money, they aren't bad.

Is there a remote speaker system that can be powered by a home AV receiver?

I have an Onkyo SR703 Receiver powering my home entertaiment system in my living room. I would like to have a speaker system in my backyard without running wires.

What speaker system should I get for an 8 channel sound card?

The motherboard I am purchasing has integrated sound that supports 8 channels (Realtek ALC850). The problem is that I cannot find a computer speaker system that supports 8 channel sound cards. I do not want a huge sound system, just one of those boxed computer kits. Please provide any SPECIFIC suggestions for an speaker system that supports 8 channel sound.


A: the sound card supports 8 channels but that doesn't mean that you have to use all 8. if you don't want a huge sound system then just get a 5.1 surround sound system that is in your budget...

I just moved into a new house and there are speakers installed in the ceiling of every room along with a volume control knob in every room. There isn't any type of receiver/intercom system installed in the home that I can find. The only odd thing I have located is a uhf/vhf connection in the wall (the old type where you wrap the wire around the screw) which is located just under the volume control in the den area of the house. I think it would be neat to be able to play my stereo...


A: The volume control is placed between the amp and the speakers, so if you take a volume control out of the wall, you'll see what the wire is that feeds it. If you can find where that wire goes, you can hook to that (if it still works).

Sounds like it's so old that you might have problems -- the volume controls are worn or burned up, the speakers are open, shorted, or the cones are damaged, etc.
