Q: I am having to compare two radio stations and need an insight into what kind of decisions are made when preparing a radio show. What things make a good radio station and help keep listeners interested? And what things put listeners off? How important is the role of presenter, and what makes a good presenter? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A: The most listened to ,despite possible parental repercussions, radio stations ever were probably the pirate stations (London and Caroline) which also had the most popular DJs of their time which were later poached by the BBC and LWT. Radio Luxembourg was avidly listened to at night by virtually every teenager in Britain that had access to a transistor radio. Radio London has recently reinvented itself and for the first time in 20 years i am now listening regularly to the radio again and so...

Well I know for me that too much yakity yak is boring. I do like when dj's goof around with each other on the radio. I don't like so many commercials that it makes me want to change the station.

Well the less ads the better for me, also less traffic and quick to the point news. I like to listen to funny presenters in the morning on my way to work, but with music inbetween. On my way home I just want music and no chat. Late at night I like chill out music.

VW radio - is it possible to retrieve the code from the radio before disconnecting battery?

I have a friend who needs to replace the battery in a VW New Beetle. When the battery is reconnected, the radio will probably need its security code re-input. Is it possible to get the code from the radio now, while it is still active before the battery is disconnected?


A: Shortly put, no. I drive a VW Jetta with the Bose system. YOu absolutley need to get that code, or go to the dealership.
(If you enter the code wrong three times in a row, you can't retry for six hours... be cautious)

It had the factory 2knob radio/cassette so i will probably have to cut it to make an aftermarket radio work.


A: yeah there isn't any installation kits for those 2 knobs radio unless you cut it to fit the aftermarket radio, shouldn't be hard those i've done it before just need good metal cutters.

How do radio stations know how many people are listening? Do our radios broadcast back to the station?

I dont think our radios would have enough transmit power to reach a radio station but how else would they know how many listeners they have at one time. And to broaden things , how do television stations know whos watching? Does my cable send messages back to the cable company , then back to the television network? Does my television infringe on my privacy?


A: Surveys - for TV, they're called Nielsson's ratings, not sure how radio does it.

No return messages without an extra box on the set.
